HHS students participate in 'Eradicate Hate Global Summit'

HHS students recently attended the 3rd annual “Eradicate Hate Global Summit” at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. This summit was formed as a response to the largest anti-Semitic attack in U.S. history at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh. To engage young adults in the meaningful work of eradicating hate, a student summit was created as well. 

Our students joined peers from 13 other regional schools to view the documentary, “Repairing the World: Stories from the Tree of Life.” Hampton students then heard from other schools regarding the work they are doing to combat hate in their own communities. With those examples in mind, students engaged in a design sprint regarding what they might do to combat hate in our region. The summit culminated with students sharing design ideas in front of an audience that included peers, educators, Tree of Life Synagogue attack survivors, victims’ relatives, and Global Summit participants. 

“Hampton High School students were granted $1,000 to develop and implement their plan,” said Claire Aloe, HHS Social Studies Teacher. “Our students are eager to solidify their plan of action and will reconvene with the Eradicate Hate team in January to continue this important work.”
